Total Bank Balance in all AMDA Bank Accounts as of 01/07/2023:
Total Expenses in December were $12,416
Total Donation Received in December: $16,388
Check-o-Matic Account Balance was $169,164
Tax form 990 of AMDA was processed by the CPA but he recommended that to e-file we need to wait until 1/23/23 as their window was closed to e-file until then. This will ensure we get a confirmation.
- AMDA Expansion/Construction Update – Sub-committee: Purpose Info 09:10AM – 09:30AM
Br Anwar gave update of Expansion Sub-committee and mentioned the cost is expected to double or triple. There was a concern, due to escalation, we won’t have 50% of the funds available to start construction. Nevertheless, we must go on with Expansion as it is expected the funds will be collected once construction starts. Br Azeem explained what was done in first phase of construction to get Qarz Hasna. To pay off Qarz Hasna we got loan from university Islamic financing who put lien on personal property of some of the Board of Trustee Member. This may be explored in future if needed, but instead of pay-off in one year we should consider to two to three years.
- Imam Hiring Update – Sub-committee: Purpose discussion 09:30AM – 10:00AM
Br Azeem & Brother Rafique gave update of the Imam Search Sub-committee contact with the recommended as well as back-up candidates. The prospective candidate from Pennsylvania was also contacted last to assess his interest, to which he responded that he already got a job.
The Sub-committee discovered that the candidate(s) rejected the offer on four reasons. 1) Salary offer was unacceptable 2) Didn’t like the insecurity of one year contract 3) Didn’t like the contract had “fire at will” clause 4) Did not feel AMDA community gave them a good reception. It was suggested that instead of one month notice, we should consider two months’ notice.
Due to the above, it was decided to give the Imam hiring a “cool down” period & discuss and revisit the imam search after Ramadan. Additional proposal was, instead of offering a pay package to prospective candidates, we should ask them what their expectations are. If their demand does not reflect their qualification & experience, then the Imam search committee need not make them an offer.
In order to prepare for Ramadan, it was requested to check availability of Br Abdullah Ehsan to be one of the Huffaz to lead taraveeh. Of the two Huffaz assigned to lead taraweeh prayer, one is Br Tazeem Khan and other will either be Br Abdullah depending on his availability or another Hafiz.
- AMDA Sunday School Update – No report from Br Abedin 10:00AM – 10:05AM
- AMDA Seerah Conference held on 2nd and 3rd December 2022
- Speakers’ Hadiya & Optional $100 per Board Member Donation request 10:05AM – 10:15AM
Some of the members made contribution to the Speakers Hadiya during the meeting.
- AMDA Youth Activities proposals Discussion – Purpose to attract young generation 10:15AM – 10:20AM
Br Masud left the meeting before the discussion started. It was requested to discuss this early next time.
- Request by different Islamic Organizations to allow for Friday Jumu’ah Khutbah Slot and making soft appeal for donations. Seema Ahmad, PARIS request for fundraising in odd night in Ramadan
Purpose Decision 10:20AM – 10:30AM
Sr Marina recommended that the week-end fund raising to be exclusively for AMDA. It was decided that AMDA fundraising be conducted on Saturday, April 1. Br Shahid & Sr Marina to search for Speakers at the fundraising. It was recommended by Sr Marina that we contact Br Dawood Walid of CAIR, Michigan.
- Constitution Amendment Subcommittee Formation Update 10:30AM – 10:35AM
Br Jami will present the names of Sub-Committee members in next meeting.
- AMDA Joint Board Chairperson Roster Process 10:35AM – 10:45AM
Br Moin explained the Chairperson Roster Process as stated on AMDA website. Details available on https://www.amda.us/chair-person-lead-member-for-joint-meeting/
- Discuss current Isha Prayer time of 8 pm/ Round Table 10:45AM – 11:00AM
No change to current Isha jamaat timing at 8pm. Members believed that after daylight saving is suspended this Isha Prayer time issue will go away.
Sr Afroza Akhter requested more prayer area for sisters at Jummah congregation. It was decided to ask Br Mwafiq to remove the classroom partitions after Sunday school to create more room for sisters.
