Monthly Report
May, 2019
- Delivered a khutba on Friday, May 3rd on the topic: “Human Beings Are One Family.”
- On occasion of the Friday Night Family Event on May 3rd gave a talk on the topic: ‘Ramadan and the Benefits of Fasting.’
- On a telephonic request made by Sister Summi of Muslim Family Services (MFS) to launch a ‘Food Drive’ for the under privileged families in Ramadan, I advised her to write to AMDA’s board. Subsequently MSF and AMDA co-sponsored this event during Ramadan by MSF parking their truck in AMDA’s parking lot on Sunday May 19th for collecting non-perishable food items for further distribution to needy families.
- During Ramadan, every night after Isha prayer, delivered a brief synopsis of the portion of the Qur’an that would be recited in the Tarawih prayer that night.
- A drive was conducted to increase AMDA’s membership during the month of Ramadan. Alhamdulillah, the response was overwhelming.
- As one of the certified speakers of the Islamic Network Group (ING), gave a lecture/presentation to the students of ‘University Preparatory Academy,’ 5310 Saint Antoine St, Detroit, MI 48202 on Monday, May 13th from 9:45-10:45 am on the topic: ‘Getting to Know American Muslims.’
- A halaqa was conducted by Br Omar Malik from 7-9 pm in the multi-purpose room on Wednesday, May 15th to review the religious courses taught by Al-Magrib Institute with a view to conduct weekly/periodical halaqas for the youth (young adults) at AMDA based on these courses.
- Delivered a khutba on Friday, May 17th on the topic: “Ramadan – A Month to Rediscover the Qur’an.”
- Delivered a khutba on Friday, May 24th on the topic: “Ramadan and Taqwa.”
- AMDA’s Fundraising event was conducted at the Balkan American Community Center in the city of Troy on Sunday, May 26 from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm.
- Coordinated with seven non-profit charitable organizations who conducted their 5-10 minutes fundraising at AMDA after Isha prayer on different dates from May 27 to June 2, 2019. This activity had the board’s approval.
- Delivered a short tafsir of few verses of the Qur’an after Salat ul-Fajr every day.
